Politically Speaking, My Views on the Left the Right and Everywhere in Between

Healthcare! Healthcare! Healthcare!

Paper for making copies of the healthcare bill: a lot, Enacting the healthcare bill: a lot more, Making History: Great, Making Sure Every American Gets the Healthcare They Need: Priceless

Ahhhhhh Finally! Healthcare reform has passed, well for the most part. Press secretary Robert Gibbs at the briefing today told reporters that the Senate would take-up House-passed healthcare fixes “at some point this week,” he went on to say, “ look healthcare’s going to become law tomorrow. I can’t speak to all of the amendments or all of the shenanigans that will be tried on Capitol Hill over the course of the next many days. But we’re confident this process is coming to an end.”  While there are still many details to be worked out today should be a day for all Americans, minus Capitol hill Republicans, to celebrate. As a whole healthcare reform is as good as passed and this country can move forward on the path to making certain every U.S citizen has access to affordable health insurance. Some say we still have a long road ahead of us, but that road is merely a small fork off of the main street that is healthcare reform. Our journey along this main road has come to an end after a long and arduous trek that  began nearly a year ago. This is a great victory for the American people as well as capitol hill Democrats and the President. President Obama finally accomplished his mission to bring desperately needed reform to the healthcare system after first announcing his intentions almost three years ago in Iowa City, where he is rumored to be returning this Thursday. The President’s approval rating should begin to rise and if everything with healthcare stays on track Democratic incumbents should be more successful at retaining their seats in the upcoming mid-term elections. Despite claims from Republicans I believe that most Americans wanted healthcare reform to become a reality and there are many people who desperately needed it to become a reality, and now it has. It is truly a great and historic day for our country!

Quote of the Day

During a town-hall meeting at an all-women’s college in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia Secretary of State, Hillary  Rodham Clinton, was asked whether she would consider moving to Canada or Russia if Sarah Palin is elected President.. Amused, Clinton replied “Well, the short answer is no. I will not be emigrating, I will be visiting as often as I can.”

This is Great! If you’ve been following my blog you now I nurse somewhat of a grudge against former governor of Alaska Sarah Palin because of this I find Clinton’s response nothing short of genius. Some say that Palin has a good chance of winning the GOP Presidential nomination and then the presidency, if this unfortunate prediction comes true Secretary of State Clinton I will see you in Canada!

Get Better President Clinton!

Earlier today former President Bill Clinton was admitted to the hospital with chest pain and  he is undergoing surgery to have two stints put in place. I wanted to let him know that we are all behind him and wish him well. Get well soon President Clinton!!!

Lily’s State of the Union

Posted in Uncategorized by politicalily on January 28, 2010

I’m sitting here anxiously awaiting the State of the Union Address which will begin in a little over two hours, exciting! The political atmosphere is turbulent and what the President says has the possibility to calm it or simply stir it up. President Obama needs to  show the American people he is more than just an articulate speaker. The President must allow his skills in policy to overshadow his oratory skills. Americans know he can make a good speech, but they are growing wary of his ability to be a good president. The President needs to veer away from his hope and change message because people are beginning to view it as an empty promise. He needs to reassure main street that he is and will advocate for them. He needs to discuss job creation and lay out an exact and precise plan that will cause the unemployment rate to plummet. He must also present a plan that will greatly reduce the national debt without completely limiting the government’s capabilities. President Obama should also speak about his plan in Afghanistan as well as his plan to combat terrorism because these are areas in which he has had some success. If the President can show that he has done something significant that has benefited the country he will be rewarded with a slightly higher approval rating.  President Obama’s Sate of the Union needs to unite Democrats and it needs to have a bipartisan message that demonstrates a willingness to work with Republicans. If the President can make his speech artful and inspiring while laying out a detailed plan to solve every single one of the nations problems I’m sure everyone will have a positive reaction. Just Kidding! He should be artful and inspiring, but he only really needs to lay out a detailed plain to save the economy to receive a positive reaction. President Obama is more likely than not extremely nervous about tonight’s State of the Union, but I’m sure with his communication and political skills he will be just fine. Let’s just hope that Joe Wilson can refrain from blurting out accusations in the middle of the speech!

Senate Passes Healthcare…Finally!

Posted in General, Uncategorized by politicalily on December 24, 2009

It has been a long journey and I highly doubt it is over, but lets not focus on that. It’s Christmas Eve so lets celebrate! It took a long time and pulled senators away from their families and drug them through feet of snow, but the Senate finally approved the healthcare bill. It’s the best Christmas present our country could imagine, any step towards healthcare is fabulous. Merry Christmas to all and to all good healthcare coverage!
